If you thought last weekend was tricky, with two shows in one night to choose from, then this weekend is going to be very, very hard for you.
Of course, being the scariest night of the year, you could spend it in Tiger Tiger. Expect nurses outfits, fairy wings, and guys who aren’t expecting to get laid dressed as Dracula. I’m sure that every single club, pub, bar and residents’ association is having a Halloween Party this weekend, but there are only a few coming up that you really need to decide between.
The Obvious Choice:
Gandalfs’ Hellish Hell-O-Ween Extravaganza. Or more specifically, ROAR’s. (Above Gandalfs – to be called by its old name, ‘Mordor’, if attempting to sleep with anyone wearing a corset). Since on any normal night Gandalfs looks like what would happen if Tin Roof were infected by vampires, Halloween at Gandalfs and ROAR is bound to be special. There is action on both the Friday and the Saturday, so if you plan on spending All Hallows’ Eve up to your eyeballs in R5 Black Label and pleather, go wild.
Or If You’re Into Electro:
Techno Syndicate at Rhino Room. Combine skinny jeans, lumo hoodies and checked caps with black capes and plastic fangs and what do you get? Fuck, I don’t know. I wasn’t that cool in high school. But Andrew Winer, Rob Gonzo, Mike B and Dan Scot will be tearing up the decks, R30 will get you in before 10pm and there will be vodka specials all night long. Sounds like a party
There’s Bands to Watch:
Hogs and Checked Zebra will be performing at Springboks Pub in Newlands. Hogs you should be familiar with by now, but if you haven’t heard Checked Zebra, they’re an awesome reggae/ska outfit from Fish Hoek, and they’re hear to lull you into a false sense of security! Both of these bands are awesome, so if you want to get drunk, sweaty and super amped, head down to Springboks. Look hard enough and you’ll find some of us in the crowd…
Then at The Assembly you can catch Gazelle, Them Tornadoes, Disco Rodeo and Toby 2 Shoes in what is also their second night of Halloween celebrations. The show looks to be rocking, but best get your tickets at webtickets before you go, or you may be disappointed!
Last, but most exciting of all, there is a Captain Stu show at Catu on the night in question (the original Facebook event was removed for being too Rock ‘n Roll – it has not been cancelled!). This is where you will be able to catch some of The Daily Discharge staffers taking photos, mingling and otherwise engaging in schmooze-like activities. Hope to see you all there!
